GST Increase Could Impact on Sales

Cash_register

Since the confirmation in the budget that GST will increase to 15% from October 1st, there has been some discussion that this could have a somewhat negative effect on sales; at least in the short term until the effects of the tax reductions start to take hold.

If you’re thinking that the GST increase could have a negative effect on your sales? Then perhaps you need to look at how the use of BarterZone can help with further increasing sales and counter any negative effect from the increase.

By further promoting that you are part of the BarterZone community, you may be in a position to tap into additional sales from other members who don’t want to use cash to make business or personal purchase.

Sure, the transactions you make and accept using BarterZone are subject to GST, but the ease and fact that promoting your acceptance of BarterZone Trade Dollars as part of your sales process have the potential to outweigh any lessening of other sales in your business.

BarterZone offers you the opportunity to promote by way of a listing specific products and services by creating a Product listing or a Service listing; we are also able to help by featuring your business under of Featured Business category on the BarterZone website and in the weekly BarterZone Newsletter.

Next time you get your BarterZone Newsletter check out the featured members, and see how you can be promoted, to be included email patrick@barterzone.co.nz; we can also include specific products you have for sale under the BarterZone For Sale section.

Remember, BarterZone is your community, and we are here to help you make the most of your use of the community.

Gold_card

BarterZone introduces new memberships to help people gain the most from the world of barter.

Since launching in October last year BarterZone has been working to ensure members are able to gain the most benefit from the barter community it has developed.

The new CLUB 100 (Gold Card and Platinum Card) membership is for members who want to buy and sell using 100% BarterZone Trade Dollars. With no joining or monthly fees, members are able to list products or services free, with no fees payable for sales made.

Until now individuals have not been invited to join barter systems as it was thought that they had nothing to offer the market; but as markets and needs change, so has BarterZone by offering memberships to individuals to give them the opportunity to buy and sell online without cash outlays.

Individuals, like their business cousins will be able to open an account, earn trade credits and start trading almost immediately.

Individuals will be able to trade with each other and with their business cousins, creating opportunities for both sides of the trade. Businesses are looking for ways they can reduce overheads, save cash for other core business activities, and with BarterZone they will be able to trade in a way not seen before.

Leaky Homes

There are still plenty of people finding out that they are victims in the leaky homes debacle, perhaps you are or, perhaps you know someone who is.

After having seen the scale of leaky homes in New Zealand, and the stress this is causing homeowners, we launched a rescue package to help affected homeowners.

We’re not getting involved in the actual politics surrounding leaky homes; where responsibility lies or anything like that; we are purely offering some assistance to people who have been affected and maybe struggling to have repairs carried out.

Instead we are potentially able to help people by offering an interest free credit line to help with repair costs to help repair affected homes.

We know you’ve questions as to how this could possible work; so have we’ve included some FAQs below:

FAQs

How does it work?

·         People can join BarterZone through one of its free membership options

·         The member requests an interest free line of credit to assist with repairs or re building work

·         The members can then contact BarterZone builders and contractors that will accept part trade dollars and part cash to complete the work

·         BarterZone staff can assist members to find suitable service providers and suppliers

·         BarterZone may require security depending on the amount of the line of credit and the individual circumstances.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. How do I repay the interest free line of credit?

A. By listing your goods or services to other members for trade dollars. The goods and services can be listed for full trade or part trade and part cash

Q. how long do I have to repay back the interest free line of credit

A. each application is treated individually

Q. do I need to provide security

A. depending on the amount of the interest free line of credit and the time needed to repay this back will depend on whether or not BarterZone will require security

Q. why can I not get contractors and supplies on full BarterZone

A. In some cases you can, however in most cases you will need to pay a mix of both Barter and Cash. The reason for this is the value of the BarterZone Currency is 1 $NZ Dollar equals 1$BZ Dollar. The IRD does not accept BarterZone Dollars for tax payments but does recognise that barter is to be accounted for in all accounting returns. Therefore most suppliers of goods and services will require some portion of a transaction be made in cash.

Social Media - Have you caught the wave yet?

Previously we’ve talked about how to make good use of BarterZone, offering you tips and advice; this week we thought we deviate and talk about Social Media, which is really being seen as a valuable marketing, communications and engagement resource for businesses of all sizes.

Social Media – Social Networking has really taken the world by storm and it is now the main way a lot of all people interact.

The interaction you make with people these days is far different to how it was 10, 5 or even 2 years ago.

These days it is expected for people to be able to get in touch with you or at least know where and what you are doing almost instantly when they want to know.

We’re in an age of instant communication and the biggest winner is social media. Social media is connecting almost everyone in the world to one another.

This social interaction means there are massive groups of people viewing the same information and exchanging ideas and the like.

This type of behaviour has grown a new age of marketing for the people wanting to impress products and information onto people.

Social media - marketing is growing so rapidly and is showing massive success to the people who have adopted the strategies and implemented them into their business model.

There is no way of getting out of it. If you’re not networking online you’re missing out on a big chunk of potential business.

For any business or organisation that is trying to make it on the social media networks you will be doing a lot better than a good 80% of those who haven’t dipped their toes in yet.

If you’re online and are connecting, joining in the conversation, and listening, and simply just being active you will get results that others aren’t.

What tools can you use?

Blogs – Posterous

Social Networks – FaceBook

Multimedia Sharing – YouTube, Flickr

Micro Blogs - Twitter

By having a profile on any of these sites businesses have the opportunity to truly connect with their audience, to engage and also to hear what people think of their ‘brand’.

Social Media is a means to not only connect and engage, but it also helps  ‘drive’ people who may not otherwise know of your business to your website; to see what it is you have to offer; this in turn gives you greater opportunity to attract new business.

If you’re serious about connecting with your audience, you need to look at social media opportunities; and through our web partners, The Web Co, we are able to offer you assistance to build your presence; contact The Web Co for more information.

Barter - It's a smarter solution

Barterzone_logo

All too often people have the idea that barter is something peculiar, that it’s not for them, that they’d lose money using a barter system. Mostly these comments come from people who have never had any exposure to barter trading as it is done today.

People tend to have the misunderstanding that the only way they can sell or buy goods is through the exchange of cash and that cash is king, well in some respects cash is king; but with the way modern barter is allowing businesses, and individuals to monetise downtime, move surplus stock and at the same time filling the needs of others, barter is making a real comeback.

Modern barter, as conducted through the BarterZone community allows for businesses to offer goods and services at their normal market rates with the knowledge that they will not lose net income levels.

The use of barter can be a very powerful business tool that provides a solution for virtually any type of business that has a need to move stock, or fill vacant downtime. Businesses, who accept payment in trade dollars instead of cash, have the opportunity to maximize efficiency by increasing stock turnover or billable hours. Companies are able to utilise the trade dollars they have earned to purchase goods or services they need without the need to use cash, cash can then be diverted to pay other accounts, or for use for business expansion.

It’s important to understand that businesses who barter don’t do it because they don’t have the cash, they do it because they know it makes sound economic sense; and they do it because they know it is one of the smartest and fastest growing ways of doing business.

If you’re already using barter, one of the best things you can do is to ask your suppliers (current and new) if they use barter (trade dollars).

Some of the types of businesses who regularly use barter are:

Printers

Mechanics

Accommodation

Business services, including accounts, financial planners

Now days you will also find that there are residential and commercial properties available to purchase with the use of trade dollars.

Sometimes you will find that its not always possible to get what you want, from where you want when you want it, patience and planning is a must, and you will also have to accept that there may be a need to look for alternative suppliers to the ones you currently use.

One of the other keys to successfully use of barter is to be flexible.

Sometimes you will have to be prepared to wait for product or service to become available, but you must also be ready to move quickly when something comes available that may not normally be available on barter. It’s the old adage “he who hesitates is lost”.

At BarterZone we say Barter is Smarter, and it is, it allows you opportunities you may not otherwise have.

A Fresh Approach to Barter

Individual_card

What was once a standard barter system where businesses traded with each other; BarterZone offers its members more; more service and product trading; as well as online auction opportunities for businesses and individuals.

BarterZone has gone one step further than other barter systems by offering free new memberships to both business and individuals, with the way the economy has been tracking everyone has been affected and in keeping with the business philosophy of growth for all, BarterZone has opened up free membership in  a bid to help people through what could otherwise have been a challenging time.

Patrick Howard of BarterZone, who has been at the helm of the company Ozone since acquiring it in 2007 has been working behind the scenes on the new business model for well over a year and sees this as an ideal time to relaunch as BarterZone.

All too often we are hearing of businesses who are slashing prices to reduce stock holdings, this is not always a good thing and can have a detrimental affect on the business and the business brand. We wanted to come in where no other barter system is and offer businesses the opportunity to trade with each other at no cost for membership and lower trading fees.

We then looked at what was happening with consumers, the individuals who have a need to sell unwanted goods; and saw an opportunity to help them by the offering Individual memberships.

Individuals will be able to trade with each other and with their business cousins, creating opportunities for both sides of the trade. Businesses are looking for ways they can reduce overheads, save cash for other core business activities, and with BarterZone they will be able to trade in a way not seen before.
